Who’s Behind the App Development Boom?

Apps Development Booming

While there are some indications that consumer interest in the iPad waned after Apple’s announcement of the device,  that hasn’t stopped a surge in new app development, apparently because of the iPad.

According to a report by Flurry, the number of developer projects for apps in the iTunes store spiked in January, following the announcement by Apple of the iPad release.

Whether you think the iPad will become as ubiquitous as the iPhone or will simply be another Wikipedia entry like Apple’s Newton, most developers are moving full speed ahead with app development in anticipation of the iPad’s spring arrival.

And while many are focusing on the developers coding the new software, it shouldn’t be forgotten that there is often another interest actually driving creation of a new app. Thomas Claburn of Information Week reports that the CEO of Bamboudesign, a firm that designs and develops apps for advertisers, corporations and entertainment companies has seen rising interest in mobile applications in general.   According to Claburn’s article, many companies are seeing mobile apps as a necessity, much like Web sites became a requirement for doing business the 1990s.   That urgency to to have a real mobile (app) presence should be given some credit for all the activity.  Only time will tell if mobile is the new internet.

Great article. I don’t think the iPad is destined to be another Newton. I think that there is a move toward apps on mobile devices, and the iPad with is capabilities will open a lot of new possibilities up to developers. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
